Qualitative Results
From 150 Residential Surveys
Open-ended or qualitative questions were placed on the
Downtown Redevelopment Survey to allow respondents to add their own comments
and suggestions. Results were compiled in an attempt to get a feeling for the
changes the respondents’ desire and amenities they would like to keep in the
Downtown area. The purpose of compiling a list of the qualitative responses is
to provide a summary to the Downtown Master Plan Committee of the frequently
stated phrases and words presented in the qualitative responses.
One hundred and fifty random residential surveys were
reviewed in order to compile the qualitative results. Key phrases and
frequently identified words were designated as categories for the results.
Categories were established based upon two reviews by the Village Zoning
Administrator and Administrative Intern. Phrases or words similar to each
other were likewise placed into the best corresponding category.
Many difficulties were encountered when attempting to
quantify the qualitative results. Respondents frequently gave answers that did
not correspond with the question asked. The quick statement or words written
by respondents did not always give the reviewers a definite answer. In many
instances a best guess of the statements intent was used to place the comment
in the appropriate category. Due to these difficulties the reviewers allowed
for a number of categories under each question and ranked the results in
descending order. Though all the categories may not be an indicator of the
respondents’ desires, the most frequently stated results are clearly
identified by the number of times the category was identified in the
qualitative responses.
