HOUSEHOLD Hazardous Waste

Generally, waste is considered hazardous if it is ignitable (i.e. burns readily), corrosive, or reactive (e.g. explosive).  Waste may also be considered hazardous if it contains certain toxic chemicals.

Most hazardous products are labeled with key words to identify them.  Some of the signal words are Caution, Warning, Danger, Poison, Flammable, Combustible, and Corrosive.  Some typical household hazardous wastes include:  gasoline, insecticides, herbicides and pesticides; oil-based paints, stains, thinners, strippers, and solvents; as well as some household cleaners and chemicals.

Waukesha County operates three permanent household hazardous wastes collection sites for residents.

To find up-to-date information on locations, operating hours, and materials they will accept, click Household Hazardous Waste.
