Generally, waste is considered hazardous if it is ignitable (i.e. burns readily), corrosive, or reactive (i.e. explosive). Waste may also be considered hazardous if it contains certain toxic chemicals.
Waukesha County operates four permanent household hazardous waste collection sites for residents.
Sharps/syringes are also considered hazardous waste, and should be disposed of safely. The Wisconsin DNR maintains a list of registered facilities (PDF) to assist residents with the proper disposal of such items. Additional information on managing household medical sharps is available on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website.
Hazardous waste materials are not permitted at the Village Recycle Center.
