How to Apply for a Building Permit

The Village utilizes SAFEbuilt's online permitting solution, Community Core. The Village encourages the electronic submission of all permit applications and have implemented online processes to allow for efficient review and payment of all fees. Please use the Apply for a Permit button above to access Community Core.

The Village also utilizes SAFEbuilt for building inspection services. To schedule an inspection, you may call the Inspection Line at (262) 420-4732 or email WIinspections@safebuilt.com. The Village's assigned Building Inspector is Mike Hadley. Mike should be contacted for specific inspection related questions. For questions on the status of your permit, contact Permit Technician Tracy Jaeckel. Lisa Held handles all commercial permits.

The Village requires rough and final inspections. All inspections must be scheduled by 4pm for next business day inspection. Please have your permit number ready.

Building Board Review Required

Additionally, most exterior alteration or construction work requires review by the Building Board. Projects that require review include exterior alterations, additions, accessory structures (sheds, pergolas, gazebos, etc.), pools, decks, retaining walls, business signage, sport courts, and new home construction.

Building Board review must occur prior to online submittal of permit applications. Any online permit submittal for work requiring Building Board review will be denied, referring the applicant to the Zoning & Planning Administrator.

To submit materials for Building Board review, please visit the Building Board Project Checklists webpage or refer to the relevant subpage for the project you will be completing. Materials must be submitted 2-4 weeks in advance of a meeting (dependent on scope of project) to get on a agenda. Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.
