New Home Construction

Before You ApplyNew Home

It is encouraged that you contact the Zoning & Planning Department while planning your project to confirm compliance with basic zoning requirements and to discuss the review and approval process.

All new home construction projects require review and approval by the Building Board prior to issuance of any permits. The Board meets twice per month (1st and 3rd Tuesday) at 5:30 p.m. To get placed on agenda, all materials must be submitted digitally to the Zoning and Planning Administrator at least 1 month in advance of the meeting. Once deemed complete by the Zoning and Planning Administrator, physical copies must be provided at least one week before the meeting.

The submittal requirements for a new home are listed below. A more comprehensive list of New Home Construction requirements may be found at the hyperlink.

Act 211 Requirements for New Home Construction

Act 211 requires that new home construction be completed by verified contractors in the State of Wisconsin and reported to the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) accordingly. DSPS has created an online Building Permit System for submitting new home construction permits directly to the State. Additionally, Act 211 requires all new home construction applications use the Wisconsin Uniform Building Permit. The DSPS Reporting Guide is included with this checklist a reference for navigating the online Building Permit System.

The DSPS online Building Permit System can be accessed at https://verification.dsps.wi.gov/buildingpermit/application/Directions.aspx
